Period Poverty Awareness Week, May 20-28th, is a week-long campaign to shine a light on period poverty and its impact on our communities. Period poverty refers to a lack of access to menstrual products, education, and health care. In the U.S., 1 in 4 teens miss school because they do not have access to period products, and 2 in 5 women struggle to purchase period supplies due to lack of income. This year’s campaign theme, “Period Supplies Are School Supplies,” emphasizes the importance of providing menstrual products to students to ensure they can participate fully and confidently in school and activities.
When everyone has what they need to feel healthy and well, our whole community is stronger.
The Take Care Project invites you to participate in these events during Period Poverty Awareness Week:
Trivia Night at Harvest Brewing: Wednesday, May 22nd, 6-8 PM
Gather your friends, form a team, and test your trivia skills while supporting an important cause! Enjoy delicious snacks, compete for prizes, and learn more about how you can make a difference in ensuring access to period products for all. $4.00 to play or bring a donation of period products. Knit Nite at W. Collective: Thursday, May 23rd, 5-7 PM
Join us at Knit Nite: Period Edition! Get crafty while learning about ways to build menstrual equity in Bennington. Learn to crochet a uterus, tampon, maxi pad, or blood drop. All skill levels are welcome, and supplies will be provided. Donations of period products are encouraged at the event, or drop them off at the store during business hours.
Support a Menstruator in Bennington
If you are unable to attend an event but still want to support a menstruator in need, you can donate online or shop the Take Care Project Amazon Wish List. A donation of $4.00 provides one person with a free period care package, which contains a month’s supply of products.
