Congratulations to Jenna, Danni, Ruby, and Abigail, the winners of the 2022 Youth Photovoice Contest! Photovoice is an annual photography contest that challenges local youth to promote healthy choices, reimagine public spaces, and celebrate community.
This year ACT partnered with Queer Connect to elevate the voices and experiences of local LGBTQ+ youth and allies. The contest theme—Brave Spaces—asked youth to use photography to explore safe, supportive, and substance-free spaces, activities, and relationships.
The panel of judges included Jess Bouchard, Interim Director and Board President of Queer Connect, photographer T.W. Collins, and Berkshire Arts & Technology Public School senior John Kozak.
“It’s very clear these young people have affirming supports in their lives,” says Jess Bouchard. “It’s beautiful to see them feeling free to be authentic and true to themselves.”
The youths’ winning photos will be featured in Queer Connect’s pride-themed photography exhibit at The Left Bank in North Bennington, which will also include a portrait series by photographer Augusta Rose called “Being Your Beauty: A Series of Coming Out Stories.” The exhibit opens with a reception on Saturday, June 4th from 3-5 pm, and runs until June 23rd. The photos will also be on display at the Bennington Pride Parade & Block Party on Sunday, June 26th.
