Fact: Peanut Butter is the perfect food.
Okay, that fact may be less objective and more subjective, but this author stands by it.
Here’s another fact for you: Before graduating high school, the average child will have eaten 1,500 PB & J sandwiches.
That would be like having a PB & J sandwich everyday for lunch for over four years.
Some might say that’s excessive, I would refer you to the first sentence of this Fact Friday.
Just two tablespoons of peanut butter, the standard amount on a PB & J sandwich, contains:
- 8 grams of protein
- 3 grams of fiber
- 5 grams of polyunsaturated & 8 grams of monounsaturated fats, both healthy fats good for brain and heart health.
- Calcium, Potassium, & Vitamin E.
- 190 calories
And, it tastes good to boot. Because peanut butter is so perfectly nutritious and kids enjoy PB & J sandwiches (1,500!!) we need to restock the food shelves around Bennington with both peanut butter, peanut butter alternatives (almond, sunflower, etc.) and jelly, so no one has to go without.
That’s why Alliance for Community Transformations has teamed up with The Lightning Jar to collect jars for United Way’s 2nd annual PB & Jam Slam competition. Please, consider RSVPing to our event.
